Troubleshooting and Error Handling
Encountering issues while using ArborChat for Excel? This section is here to help! Below, we’ve outlined common errors and their explanations to ensure you can resolve problems quickly.
Common Excel Formula Errors
#VALUE!: Explanation: This usually occurs if the input is incorrect or the function receives unexpected data types. Solution: Check that the function parameters are properly formatted (e.g., correct ticker, query type).
#NAME?: Explanation: Excel doesn’t recognize the function, likely due to a typo or the add-in not being loaded. Solution: Ensure FinChat is installed and active, and double-check the function name.
#REF!: Explanation: This happens if the formula references an invalid or deleted cell. Solution: Confirm all referenced cells or ranges are correct and exist.
#N/A: Explanation: The requested data or result is unavailable. Solution: Ensure the company ticker and query are valid. Some data may not be available for all companies.
Type of Errors from ARBOR functions
#FailedToAnswer: This occurs when the AI cannot generate an appropriate response. Try rephrasing your query or providing more specific details.
#NonInvestmentRelated: The query is outside the scope of stock-related analysis. Please focus your questions on investment topics.
#ShouldUseScreener: The question may be better addressed using the Stock Screener formula. Try switching to
=ARBOR_SCREEN
.#ContentFiltered: The query contains restricted or inappropriate content. Please revise the query and try again.
#NoRelevantDataFound: No data is available for the specific query. Double-check the ticker or query context.
#NoCompanyMatched: The input does not match any known companies. Verify the company name or ticker symbol.
#BUSY
This appears while ArborChat is processing your request. It’s not an error but indicates that the query is running. Please wait until the “Regenerate” button becomes clickable again. For bulk operations, note that performance may depend on your subscription plan’s concurrency limits.
Bulk Editing Performance Issues
Explanation: If bulk operations feel slow, this is likely due to the concurrency limit set by your subscription plan.
Solution: Wait until the current operations complete before adding more requests. Upgrade your plan for higher concurrency limits if needed.
Connection Issues
Invalid API Key: Explanation: The API key is missing or incorrect. Solution: Re-enter your API key in the settings and ensure it is valid and active.
Network Problems: Explanation: FinChat relies on an internet connection to process queries. Solution: Check your internet connection and retry.
Add-in Not Working or Crashing
Occasionally, the add-in might fail to load or respond due to a local Excel issue.
Solution:
Restart Excel and reload the add-in.
